I did experiment for detect formaldehyde by acetylacetone method first time, but the experiment leave a question. procedure is: 1) measure 1g of mask(hygiene mask for defence respiratory organ) 2) cut the mask fine and put it to 100ml of distilled water 3) During shaking, put this at water bath(40 degree) on 1 hour 4) filter the mask(discard mask and use water flow through filter 5) put acetylacetone 10ml into water 10ml 6) Incubate at 40 degree, 30min during shaking 7) compare with potassium chromate solution(I don't know why compare with potassium chromate solution, but this solution is criteria) acetylacetone never mixed with water, and acetylacetone+water solution seems two layer when I mixed and mixed. I want to mix vigorously but Nessler tube don't have cover... Is acetylacetone not mixed with water?
